The Senior School Principal oversees Grades 9-12. The Senior School Principal oversees a 15+ member teaching staff including administrative support from an Academic Counselor and Sports Coordinator. The Senior School Principal acts as the educational leader of the senior school, responsible for its day-to-day operation, and works closely with the Middle School Principal to deliver on the overall program of the Secondary school.

Qualifications
- Are committed Christians growing in faith and in full agreement with our statement of faith.
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Leadership. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Have at least 3 years of school leadership experience, preferably in a multi-cultural
Setting.
- Are able to lead from a biblical worldview and serve as a strong Christian role model.
- Have strong written and oral communications skills.
- Familiarity with Cambridge Int’l Examinations curricula preferred
Responsibilities
Educational
- To supervise and evaluate the teaching process.
- To review and evaluate academic programs.
- To conduct regular meetings with staff which will deal with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical/spiritual interest and concern.
- To assist in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies and programs.
- To assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events and keeping the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
- To prepare a master class schedule (timetable) and to assign staff and students to classes and other obligations, working in conjunction with the Middle School and Primary Principals.
- To coordinate homeroom teaching teams.
- To provide for the academic guidance of students.
- To oversee the assessment, grading and the reporting standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
- To monitor student achievement, tracking their progress towards expected outcomes and identifying necessary steps for intervention.
- To oversee the coordination of the extra-curricular activity’s programs of the senior school.
- To co-ordinate the selection and procurement of resources and supplies for the senior school.
- To oversee various routine activities throughout the year (rosters, weekly newsletter
- distribution, locker assignments, etc.).
- To arrange for substitute teachers as needed.
Culture/Climate
- To function as the chief articulator of the school’s mission and vision to senior school staff and maintain congruency between the school’s mission and vision statements and all activities in the senior school.
- To function as the chief articulator of the senior school’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
- To ensure an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take place, a school climate which is supportive and which reflects high morale.
- To work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise and to keep the Director informed of general problems of the senior school.
- To be responsible for establishing guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; to maintain student discipline consonant with school policies; to monitor students’ adherence to established school rules.
- To be a visible presence in all areas of the senior school and act as interface between visitors of all types and the senior school Students and Parents.
- To be aware of the educational, physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs of the students and to develop plans for meeting these needs.
- To maintain complete records on all students.
- To provide opportunities for parents to meet and consult with senior school teachers about their children’s education (Back-to-school nights, Parent/Teacher/Student Consultations, informal gatherings, etc.)
- To ensure efficient administration of internal and external examinations.
- To maintain accurate records of student attendance.
Personnel
- To make recommendations to the Director regarding hiring and retention, and the assignment of staff
- To establish programs for orientation and in-service training of senior school staff
- To be aware of the educational, physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs of the teaching staff and to develop plans for meeting these needs
Admissions and Transitions
- To oversee the senior school student admissions process including assessment, interviews, and evaluation of candidates for enrollment and liaise with the Academic Counselor/Guidance Counselor regarding Grade 11 admissions.
- To ensure that students fulfill graduation requirements and plan for remedial activities as necessary to help students fulfill those requirements.
- To ensure the smooth transition of:
- Grade 8 students to Grade 9 (IGCSE)
- Grade 10 students to Grade 11 (IGCSE to A-level)
- Those students coming to or leaving HOPAC
Other
- To oversee the senior school budget and approve resource purchases, in conjunction with the Middle School Principal.
- To assist in overseeing the coordination of Service Emphasis Week (together with Service-Learning coordinator and Middle School Principal).
- To make final decisions, in conjunction with the Director, on serious disciplinary matters.
- To perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Recruiting
All staff are God’s provision to HOPAC in response to the specific prayers of the Board and community of HOPAC. Therefore, each staff member is asked to be cognizant of God’s specific direction toward this position and assured of His faithfulness to them when agreeing to this position.
Spiritual support and pastoral care are normally arranged through a sending mission agency. If the applicant is an expatriate citizen and not under a mission agency, then a local congregation (in Tanzania) and/or a church in the country of origin must agree to provide the pastoral authority for the applicant.
Preferably from a Western, English-speaking country. It is highly desired that English is the first language but must have a high degree of proficiency in English.
Terms of Service
The Secondary School Principal receives a salary and benefits. Contracts are agreed on an individual basis. It is expected that staff members will be present at school for all working days unless they are ill or have specifically been granted leave, including compassionate leave, in consultation with their mission or sending agency. Travel and living arrangements are made by the individual or their mission. Assistance from HOPAC in either travel or living arrangements can be negotiated on an individual basis.
Because of the leadership nature of this position, it is required that a minimum contract period be for three years. Additionally, annual extensions can be negotiated at the end of the initial contract.
During every year of the contract, and subsequently, the Senior School Principal will be evaluated by the Director. Unsatisfactory performance or moral failure is grounds for dismissal.
Early termination for reasons unrelated to job performance or personal conduct must be communicated six months in advance. Decisions concerning renewal of the contract by either party must be communicated no less than six months before the end of the contract period.
Relation to Authority
The administrative structure of the school follows a classic model. The exercise of authority is such that the Director will work through the Senior School Principal, and the Senior School Principal will work through his or her school management team and the management team will work through its staff. The Senior School Principal is responsible for all aspects of the operation of Haven of Peace Academy as stated above and is directly accountable to the Director.
Evaluation
- Continuous performance evaluation will be provided through interaction with the Director.
- Specific, annual evaluation will be conducted by the Director.
- Evaluation will be carried out in fair, frank and open discussion with the Director.
